Since you already know my age, I can tell you that when I was in high school, the style was penny loafers without socks. And in those days, girls couldn’t wear pants to school. It was dresses and skirts. Even though we were freezing, we were stylin’ so the cold was worth it. We were cool. Really cool. 😉
So it didn’t surprise me when my church’s young men came over Wednesday night to help chop and split my huge pile of boulder-sized tree-trunk logs. Some wore shorts. Some came coatless. They sure worked up a sweat, so maybe they really were warm. But I can tell you the thermometer outside my kitchen window was well below 32 degrees.
I so appreciated their generosity and service, especially on a day when I was feeling kinda sad about putting my house—which I’ve loved and nurtured for the past 7 years—on the market. These guys warmed my heart, and the wood they chopped will warm my home for quite some time to come. Thanks, guys! You rock! (Or should I say: You swing an awesome axe! ?)
