Day 44—Try Something New! December 29, 2009

I can't wait to try out some new veggie recipes!

For Christmas, I asked Santa (in the form of Lyanne’s boyfriend, Loren) to replace my 40-year-old held-together-with-duct-tape Betty Crocker cookbook. He obliged with the awesome BH&G model above.

As John Travolta said in “Look Who’s Talking,” — You’re makin’ my mout’ wawtuh!! (Translated: You’re making my mouth water!)

I can’t wait to test out some new veggie dishes. And bonus: If you go to Sparkpeople.com, you can enter any recipe’s ingredients and the site will calculate the nutrition breakdown for you. So step out of your comfort zone. Try something new!

    For veggie recipes (and others) that are weight-loss-friendly, check out “The Fat-Flush Cookbook,” by Ann Louise Gittleman.

    Here is a recipe I use a lot:


    1 small onion, chopped
    1 green pepper, chopped
    1/4 lo-fat chicken broth
    2 cups cooked cauliflower, diced
    1/4 t. dried dill
    1/2 t. fresh garlic, minced

    In a nonstick skillet, saute onion and pepper in broth for about 5 minuts over medium heat. Add cauliflower and toss until heated through. Add dill and garlic. Transfer to bowl and mash. Serves 2-3.
